Hollinger Inc. TGF is insolvency counsel for Hollinger Inc. and certain of its subsidiaries in connection with the CCAA filing in Canada and the ancillary filing under Chapter 15 of the US Bankruptcy Code in Delaware.
BCE Inc. TGF has been retained as counsel to a group of institutional investors holding over $700 million in bonds issued by Bell Canada in 1976 and 1996, in response to the proposed leveraged buy-out announced by Bell Canada and its parent, BCE Inc.

Portus TGF acts as lead counsel to KPMG Inc., the court-appointed receiver and trustee in bankruptcy of Portus, being Canada’s largest hedge fund scandal encompassing complex multi-jurisdictional investigations and litigation to trace and recover money misappropriated from the $800 million Portus fund.
Norshield TGF acts as lead counsel in Ontario to RSM Richter Inc., the court-appointed receiver of the Norshield group of companies, which represents Canada’s second largest hedge fund scandal involving attempts to trace and recover over $400 million in investor funds moving through a complex array of transactions and entities in multiple jurisdictions.
Calpine TGF acts as lead counsel to the largest creditor group of one of the Canadian subsidiaries of the Calpine group of companies, in pursuing the litigation, negotiation and resolution of complex, multi-jurisdictional issues in an effort to recover payment in full for bondholders holding over US$275 million in bonds. The Calpine restructuring is one of the largest restructurings under Chapter 11 in the US, involving 274 entities in the US and 12 entities in Canada.

Sola Developments Limited v. ICI Canada Inc. Michael Barrack and Deborah Palter successfully defended an action for specific performance in connection with land located on Georgian Bay: Sola Developments Limited v. ICI Canada Inc., 2009 CanLII 14049 (ON S.C.). The Court held that the agreement of purchase and sale automatically became null and void in accordance with its terms. ICI Canada Inc. did not act unreasonably and did not breach the agreement of purchase and sale. The decision is currently under appeal.
