Grant B. Moffat
PRACTICE
Grant Moffat has been a partner at TGF since 1999. Prior to becoming a partner, Mr. Moffat was an associate at TGF and practiced at a large Toronto law firm. Mr. Moffat was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1991.
Mr. Moffat practices exclusively in the areas of bankruptcy, insolvency and banking law, including workouts, refinancings, bank litigation, receiverships and bankruptcies, with a particular emphasis on the exercise of creditors’ rights. Mr. Moffat regularly represents chartered banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions. Mr. Moffat has acted for creditors in a wide range of industries, including health care (retirement and long-term care residences), aviation, automotive (both parts manufacturing and retail dealerships), software and the hotel and leisure industry. Mr. Moffat regularly acts as independent counsel for court-appointed officers, such as receivers, trustees in bankruptcy and monitors.
PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT
Mr. Moffat has been an instructor in the Insolvency Law Section of the Bar Admission Course and he lectures and writes frequently on matters relating to insolvencies and the enforcement of rights as between debtors and creditors. Mr. Moffat is a member of the Insolvency, Business and Health Law Sections of the Ontario Bar Association and is also a member of the Turnaround Management Association.
EDUCATION
Mr. Moffat obtained a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) from Queen’s University in 1986 and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University in 1989.
