TGF typically hires 3-4 summer students (including both 1L and 2L students) and 2-3 articling students each year. We hire students with the intention that they can learn and grow at our firm over time, ideally progressing through the student program and returning to TGF as associates and, eventually, partners.
TGF looks for exceptional and driven students to take on significant responsibilities as part of our hands-on student program. You will have the opportunity to work with and be mentored by award-winning, precedent-setting lawyers at a friendly and collegial firm that makes students a key part of our team from day one.
TGF is closely involved with the legal community, and prominently involved in professional organizations such as The Advocates’ Society and the Insolvency Institute of Canada. We encourage and support our students to get involved in industry organizations from the outset.
Students are a key part of our team. We involve our students in every part of our work, including assessing the strengths and weaknesses of legal positions, negotiating agreements during restructurings, drafting pleadings and motion materials, gathering evidence, consulting directly with clients, managing discovery processes, formulating case strategies and attending trials and hearings. We know that we give our students more responsibilities than their peers, and we make sure to give them the support they need to excel.
Mentorship is built into the fabric of TGF: every lawyer is a mentor to other lawyers, and we assign our students an early-career rising star to support their growth and development.
TGF abides by the student recruitment procedures published by the Law Society of Ontario, and only accepts applications through the viLawPortal.
